We are afraid to commit to things. We are scared of painting ourselves into a corner. We are afraid to make decisions because those decisions can and will in many ways limit our options later.
Sawyer and Mercedes a few years ago; always learning, always exploring, always teaching me something.
We want to be free to create. No rules no boundaries, no restrictions.
That freedom allows for total artist expression, full opportunity for happiness and empowerment of ideas.
That restriction-less environment brings real creative freedom, right?
Wrong, wrong wrong.
It’s totally counter intuitive, and many will argue the point, but the truth is that without any boundaries without any rules, you simply don’t have the construct in which to develop the art.
There must ALWAYS be boundaries, rules, borders that are well understood, but large enough and generous enough to allow for freedom.
The painter has the boundaries of the canvas, the paint, the brushes, and time. The musician has the boundaries of the instrument, and human’s capacity and limits of hearing.
Without the construct of the medium, without rules to the game, there is no way to really express yourself fully.
I’m sure many people don’t agree with this notion, but the reality of the world we live in is such that this is just a part of how things work. It’s a truth that can’t be denied regardless of how many people wish it wasn’t so.
We shouldn’t be so afraid of commitment. Of course, we should be smart about commitments for sure, we should be very careful when making them, quick to say no, and slow to say yes, but we should never ever be afraid.
Commitments, the right ones, will give you new freedoms often times in ways you least expect it.

Often times commitment gives you freedom
So many afraid to commit, afraid to risk. Often the greatest freedoms are found in the simplest commitments.
