I love open roads, so much to explore, so much to learn, so much potential yet to be discovered!
My dad taught me a valuable lesson when I was growing up. He taught me that road trips were not just a way to save money. They were also a way to make memories, have adventures, learn about the people you care about, AND save money.
I have 4 kids, currently 16, 14, 9, and 7. From a very young age, they were subjected to the glorious ROAD TRIP!?
Move over Chevy Chase, we are headed to wally world!?
Seriously though; there are very few opportunities where you can learn as much about a person as spending a week or two with them in a car, in a tent, on the road, exploring and discovering new things.
I have learned more about myself during these times too. There’s something powerful about being exhausted, on a perfectly straight road, and seeing a sign “only 364 miles to the city where your destination awaits”
Dang, 364 miles? Oh crud, at 70 miles and hour, that’s a freaking 5+ hour drive!
That’s when it sucks. It’s also when it’s magical.?
No internet, no cell service, not even any radio stations. Just forced time with people you care about in close proximity. No escaping from the tough conversations, no avoiding the deep thinking and discussing. It’s you, them, and the open road.
High desert roads south of Lake Tahoe are pretty wonderul
A certain type of magic is created when you journey with the people you love to explore together something new and amazing.
Incredible memory building adventures.?
Road trips are an increasingly rare thing.
Families have less time than ever, and they like each other less than ever.
Kids are less disciplined and frankly spoiled rotten with a “get what I want when I want, as in right this very freaking minute” kind of culture. It doesn’t fit well with a long road trip through a desert with nothing to do but gaze, ponder and talk.
It’s a shame really so few will understand the magic of spending time seeing beautiful creation with those they love.
It’s sad for sure.
I hope you, like me, will be part of the lucky few, part of the risk takers, and adventure seekers.?
Let’s do it, where to next?
