Don’t let age bring bitterness

When we are little, we’re told, “you can be anything you want, anything you set your mind to.”

Mercedes (7) living life and chasing dreams!

So we say “I want to be an astronaut” or “I want to be president of the united states” or “I want to be a movie star.”

“That’s great honey, I think you would make a great astronaut!”

That’s what we’re told when we are 5 or 7 or 10, but try it when you’re 17 or 20 or 30.

The unbridled optimism becomes something entirely different, “I think you need to be more realistic, maybe shoot for something a little more practical.”

Why? Why should we run for our dreams when are 7, but just be practical when we are 37. Are our dreams no longer important, or were we just lied to when we were kids?

Really there is no reason not to continue to strive towards your dreams.

We live in the most “privileged” time in history, a time where even the craziest wildest dreams are often actually within reach. Of course, there is no guarantee that you will be able to accomplish that crazy idea you have, but there is no guarantee you won’t either.

Chances are infinitely better if you try than if you don’t try.

I think people toss their wet blankets on others dreams because they are too afraid to try for their own, and if you don’t try, they won’t feel quite so bad.

It’s fear you know, it’s fear that prevents nearly everyone from trying. It holds us back, causes doubt, discouragement and low self-esteem.

Fear needs to take a back seat, and the only way that will happen is if YOU put it there. It’s 100% up to you, it’s your choice and no one else to try or not try. What’s the worse that could happen? Your fear of not being successful will prove to be true, and you won’t reach your dream.

Who cares, for SURE you’ll never achieve your dreams if you don’t even try.

It’s time you get up off your butt, take action and started down that path towards your dreams. The old Chinese proverb is spot on; “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.”

Get started.
