I?ve lived a while now. I?ve found myself in a lot of situations with a lot of people from different cultures, countries, backgrounds, religions, and generations.

Nice morning sunrise on #pilotbutte in #bendoregon the other morning.

I?ve learned two somewhat opposing but profound lessons.

First, people generally speaking, (of course they are exceptions) are selfish, egotistical asses.

Yes, I know, shocking right?. Not really.

I want it NOT to be true, I want to believe that people are generally good, but it?s just not true. Again, yes, there are many exceptions, many wonderful selfless people, it?s just that they are the exception.

I?ve also learned something else interesting.

Despite the fact that so many people are basically out to screw you, YOU still NEED them.

You should trust them, you should believe in them, give them the benefit of the doubt, and hope in their goodness.

What? I know right…

Yea, basically I believe that as humans we are created to live in community, we are designed to work better together than apart. It?s not easy of course, the more you put yourself out there, the more often you might get stabbed in the back, but at the same time, the more real opportunity you?ll have.

You can never accomplish as much by yourself as you can with others. Life is not as fulfilling by yourself as with others. Yes there is risk, a lot of risk, and you?ll get it right between the shoulder blades sometimes, it?s going to hurt, it?s going to hurt bad, and make you doubt that it?s even worth it.

It is. The risk is worth it, the struggle is worth it. PEOPLE are worth it. You?ll be surprised in life who turns their back and screws you, and you?ll also be surprised in life who sticks closer than a brother.

As you get older you too will be tempted to write off people, write off friends, to shrink back into the dark corners of your life, throwing your hands up and giving up on ?people? do not do this, take the risk, make the calls, invest in those relationships. They all won?t go perfect, but living a rich life with others will be worth the risk. TRUST when you don?t feel you should, invest when you feel it?s not worth it, be careful, but do it, it?s worth it.

Trust… Invest very carefully in others, but still invest and often.
