It’s a sad reality that “history is doomed to repeat itself” is in fact true. It’s telling of the narrative of our world, as humans, we seem to have such a hard time learning from the past.
Oh yes, we love to read about the past, we love to watch a good TV show based on events from the past, we like to learn about it, but we don’t really learn FROM it.
Generation after generation, culture after culture, people after people make the same mistakes over and over again.
Why? Why can’t we take the time to read about, study, and actually LEARN from the past? People are not all that different.
I think that sometimes we get hung up on how “different” other peoples and cultures are to really learn from them. This is a mistake, a mistake we really shouldn’t have to make over and over.
People have been on this earth a while, and have struggled with the same raw problems for thousands of years.
I know for me, the more I read, the more I understand, the more I learn about others, the better I’m able to interpret who I am, and the place I have in the world of today.
Let’s all take a bit more time, go a bit slower, and pay a bit more attention to the world around us, not just today, but from our history as well. I think we’ll all be better for it.
Inspiration from the Instagram post:
Wisdom is to be gained from learning from the past.
It’s unfortunate that “history is doomed to repeat itself.” What would happen if we all spent more time learning and less time telling?
